Mark Degree Ladies Night - Benissa

Mark Mason's Ladies Night

Last night, May 28th, was held the annual Mark Mason's Ladies Night. It was held at the very popular venue of Salones El Canor near Benissa and is fast becoming an event not to be missed. Only the second such event to be held, it is already establishing a reputation for great food, good company and entertainment. Last year we received around forty Masons with their wives and friends, this year that number increased to over seventy. A phenomenal rise in such a short time. The evening was largely arranged by WBros Michael Shilan and Gerald Hales with much help and encouragement from their wives and to whom we offer our thanks for all their hard work.

This event was unusual in that it was sponsored by four different Mark Lodges from the Marina Alta region; Javea 1688, Serendipity 1744, San Juan 1810 and Oliva La Safor. It was a great opportunity to meet and befriend Mark Masons from other Lodges in a friendly and convivial atmosphere. After all Mark is known worldwide as the 'friendly' degree and last night proved that to be a fact.

The food served was of the highest quality and the service second to none. A venue I would heartily recommend. Entertainment was provided by the ever popular Ian and Gill Henry, two of the best entertainers in Spain. Ian played the piano and sang extremely well throughout our meal and later Gill raised the tempo a little to entertain us with more up tempo songs until after midnight. Stewards and Wardens of the Lodges stepped in to act as guides and greeters and the evening ran like clockwork. A tribute to all the hard work spent in planning.

A grand charity raffle was raised, offering some extremely good prizes, and succeeded in raising well over five hundred euros to be donated to worthy charities. In the toast to the Ladies, WBro David Wynn paid a fond and well deserved tribute to Mrs Muriel Shilan for all the time, effort and dedication she gives to raising money for various charities – far too numerous to list here. He informed us that this intrepid lady, quite apart from swimming in the Med. with her family on New Year's Day to raise funds is soon going to be doing a parachute jump and will welcome any sponsorship or donations which anyone would like to offer. WBro Gerald Hales sang the Ladies song extremely well and this was followed by more singing and dancing until the close of festivities. To all those who took part or attended we offer our grateful thanks and, if any of you missed this year's event, I cam strongly recommend you to book in plenty of time for next year. This is an event NOT to be missed.
